Possible Causes
Unstable utility voltage causing ATS to transfer back and forth, Incorrect voltage/frequency thresholds, Faulty utility sensing in ATS, Loose sensing wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Cycling can stress equipment. Place the generator in OFF or MANUAL (no AUTO) until the cause is found.
- Step 1 – Monitor utility power: Use a meter or power quality recorder to check for voltage or frequency fluctuations on the utility side.
- Step 2 – Check ATS sensing settings: Verify that the ATS pickup and dropout settings for utility and generator are per Multiquip and utility recommendations.
- Step 3 – Inspect sensing wiring: Tighten all voltage sensing connections in the ATS and generator controller.
- Step 4 – Adjust or replace ATS controller: If settings are correct but cycling persists, the ATS control board may be faulty and should be replaced.
