Possible Causes

Shorted governor actuator coil, Binding throttle linkage causing overload, Shorted wiring harness to actuator, Failed driver circuit on controller

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disable auto-start, open main breaker, and disconnect battery negative before unplugging actuators.

  • Inspect linkage for binding: Disconnect the actuator from the throttle lever and move the lever by hand. If it is stiff, correct the mechanical binding before replacing electronics.
  • Check actuator wiring: Inspect the harness from the controller to the actuator for chafed insulation or pinch points. Repair or replace damaged sections.
  • Measure actuator resistance: With the actuator unplugged, measure coil resistance with a multimeter and compare to Onan specifications. A very low reading indicates a shorted coil—replace the actuator.
  • Controller driver: If a known-good actuator still causes Code 19, the controller’s actuator driver circuit may be damaged and require controller replacement.
