Possible Causes
Restricted exhaust system or muffler, Overloaded generator causing high combustion temperatures, Lean fuel mixture due to fuel restriction, Faulty exhaust temperature sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Exhaust components are extremely hot. Allow the unit to cool fully before inspection. Ensure adequate ventilation around the generator.
- Reduce load: Open the main breaker and restart. If Code 25 does not reoccur with no load, gradually add loads and keep total load within the generator’s rated capacity.
- Inspect exhaust system: Check for crushed exhaust pipes, blocked muffler outlets, or foreign objects near the exhaust outlet. Clear any obstructions.
- Check air filter and fuel filter: Replace a dirty air filter and clogged fuel filter. Poor airflow or fuel restriction can alter combustion and raise exhaust temperature.
- Inspect exhaust temperature sensor: Locate the sensor on the exhaust manifold or pipe. Check wiring and connector for heat damage. Replace the sensor if wiring is intact but Code 25 persists without actual overheating.
