Emergency Stop Active / Shutdown Circuit Latched
Generator will not start, controller shows E001 and engine does not crank

Possible Causes
Emergency stop button engaged, Emergency stop circuit wiring open, Fault relay latched on Deep Sea / ComAp controller, Defective emergency stop switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the generator is isolated from load and the automatic transfer switch (ATS) is in OFF or MANUAL BYPASS as per site procedures. Remove all start signals before working on the set.
- Check emergency stop button: Locate the red emergency stop (E‑STOP) on the generator enclosure or remote panel. Turn or pull to reset. Confirm the button mechanically releases.
- Inspect E‑STOP circuit: With power off to the control circuit, open the control panel and trace the E‑STOP wiring from the button to the controller terminals (e.g., Deep Sea DSE7320, ComAp InteliLite). Look for loose terminals, broken conductors, or corrosion on terminals labeled E-STOP, REMOTE STOP, or NC STOP LOOP.
- Check controller inputs: Power the controller and view the digital input status page. Confirm the emergency stop input shows as inactive when the button is released. If it still shows active, temporarily bridge the E‑STOP terminals with a test link to confirm wiring/ switch fault (only if site safety rules allow).
- Reset latched fault: After correcting the issue, press RESET on the controller and attempt a manual start. Observe if E001 clears.
- Replace faulty switch: If the E‑STOP switch does not change state electrically when operated (test with a multimeter on continuity), replace it with a compatible Perkins/ OEM emergency stop switch.
