Generator controller displays E002 and engine cranks but does not fire

Safety: Isolate the generator from load and ensure no automatic start signals. Work in a well‑ventilated area away from ignition sources.

• Check fuel level and valves: Confirm the day tank and main tank have adequate diesel. Verify all manual fuel shutoff valves to the Perkins engine are fully open.
• Inspect for leaks and air: Look for wet fittings, cracked hoses, or loose clamps on the fuel feed and return lines. Tighten any loose connections.
• Replace/clean fuel filters: Locate the primary fuel filter/water separator and the secondary fuel filter on the Perkins engine. Replace elements following the engine service manual. Pre‑fill filters with clean diesel if recommended.
• Bleed the fuel system: Use the manual priming pump (if fitted) or the electric lift pump. Open the bleed screws on the filter head and high‑pressure pump, pump until bubble‑free fuel flows, then close screws. Follow the Perkins bleeding procedure for your engine model (e.g., 1104, 1106, 4000 series).
• Check electric lift pump operation: With ignition on, listen/feel for the lift pump running. If silent, test for 12/24 V at the pump connector. If voltage is present but pump does not run, replace the fuel lift pump.
• Retry start: Clear the E002 code on the controller, then attempt a manual start while monitoring fuel pressure (if a gauge or sensor is fitted).
