Perkins standby generator shuts down shortly after start, controller shows E003

Critical safety: Do not repeatedly start an engine with suspected low oil pressure. Severe engine damage can occur.

• Check oil level: With the engine stopped and cooled, use the dipstick to verify oil level is within the marked range. Top up with the correct grade of oil specified for your Perkins engine if low.
• Inspect for leaks: Look around the oil filter, sump, rocker cover, and crankshaft seals for fresh oil leaks. Repair any obvious leaks before restarting.
• Verify oil pressure mechanically: If possible, fit a mechanical oil pressure gauge to the engine’s test port. Crank and then run the engine briefly while monitoring pressure. Compare readings to Perkins specifications.
• Check oil pressure switch/sender: Locate the oil pressure switch or transducer connected to the controller input. Inspect the connector and wiring harness for damage or corrosion. Test the switch with a multimeter or substitute a known‑good sender.
• Controller input check: On the Deep Sea/ComAp controller, view the analog/digital input for oil pressure. If mechanical pressure is normal but the controller reads low, the sender or wiring is faulty.
• Do not run with true low pressure: If mechanical pressure is genuinely low, stop the engine and arrange for a professional inspection of the oil pump, bearings, and lubrication system.
