Possible Causes
Insufficient engine power due to fuel issues, Governor droop or gain misadjusted, Excessive load applied suddenly, Faulty governor actuator
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Underfrequency can damage sensitive loads. Remove non‑essential loads while troubleshooting.
- Check load level: Compare actual kW load to generator rating. If overloaded, shed load to within nameplate capacity.
- Fuel system inspection: Ensure filters are clean and fuel supply is adequate (see E002). Restricted fuel will limit engine power.
- Governor tuning: Access governor or controller parameters for droop and gain. If frequency sags excessively under load, adjust according to manufacturer instructions.
- Actuator function: Observe the governor actuator movement under load changes. If slow or limited, test its power supply and replace the governor actuator if defective.
- Re‑test with step loads: After adjustments, apply step loads while monitoring frequency response.
