How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Never attempt manual paralleling without proper training and equipment. Incorrect synchronization can severely damage alternators and switchgear.
- Check sync settings: In the Deep Sea/ComAp controller, verify acceptable windows for voltage, frequency, and phase angle are correctly configured.
- Verify sensing: Confirm that the controller is measuring both mains and generator voltages and frequencies correctly. Compare with an external meter.
- Sync check relay: If a separate sync check relay is used, test its operation and wiring. Replace if it fails to close under correct conditions.
- Governor/AVR response: Ensure the generator can reach and maintain the target voltage and frequency before sync. Tune governor and AVR if response is too slow.
- Test in manual mode: If allowed, use the controller’s manual sync function to observe how close the generator can match the mains before the fault occurs.
