Possible Causes
Insufficient oil due to consumption or leaks, Faulty oil level sensor in sump, Incorrect dipstick reading due to installation angle
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Do not run the engine with low oil level. Severe damage can occur.
- Confirm level: Use the dipstick on level ground to verify oil level. Top up with correct oil if low.
- Inspect for leaks: Check sump gasket, oil filter, drain plug, and crank seals for oil leaks. Repair as needed.
- Sensor test: Locate the oil level sensor on the sump. Disconnect the plug and check sensor operation per Perkins manual (float or capacitive type). Bridge the connector to simulate normal level if allowed; if alarm clears, sensor is suspect.
- Replace sensor: Drain oil as required and replace the oil level sensor if faulty.
