Clogged air filter, Turbocharger not producing boost, Sticking injectors, Overloaded generator
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Operate in a well‑ventilated area. Prolonged black smoke indicates stress on the engine.
- Air intake: Replace the air filter and check intake ducting for obstructions.
- Load check: Reduce load to within generator rating and observe if smoke decreases.
- Turbo inspection: Ensure boost hoses are intact and turbo spins freely (see E026).
- Injector service: If smoke persists at normal load, have the Perkins injectors tested and serviced or replaced.
