Possible Causes
Air in fuel system, Blocked fuel filters, Faulty fuel shutoff solenoid not energizing, Severely clogged air filter
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disable automatic start and ensure the generator cannot connect to load during testing.
- Fuel supply: Confirm fuel level and that all shutoff valves are open. Replace primary and secondary fuel filters and bleed the Perkins fuel system using the manual priming pump.
- Fuel solenoid: Check that the fuel shutoff solenoid on the injection pump pulls in during cranking. If not, test for supply voltage and replace the solenoid if defective.
- Air filter: Remove and inspect the air filter element. Replace if heavily contaminated.
- Compression/engine condition: If fuel and air are confirmed and engine still will not start, a compression or timing issue may exist and should be investigated by a Perkins technician.
