Possible Causes
Faulty engine speed sensor (magnetic pickup), Sticking throttle or governor linkage, Incorrect governor adjustment, Controller speed sensing circuit fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Put the generator in OFF, disconnect battery negative, and wait for all rotating parts to stop. Do not work near moving belts or fans.
- Inspect throttle and governor linkage: Manually move the throttle lever on the injection pump or carburetor. Ensure it moves smoothly and returns by spring action. Lubricate pivot points lightly if sticking.
- Check speed sensor: Locate the magnetic pickup or speed sensor near the flywheel or ring gear. Inspect the connector and wiring harness for damage. Ensure the sensor is mounted at the correct gap (refer to Pramac/engine manual, typically 0.5–1.0 mm).
- Look for loose wiring: Follow the speed sensor wiring back to the controller. Repair any chafed, pinched, or loose wires.
- Controller reset: Reconnect the battery, clear the E04 alarm, and perform a manual start. If overspeed is indicated immediately without actual high RPM, the sensor or controller may be faulty.
- Do not bypass overspeed: If the engine truly races uncontrollably, shut it down immediately and contact a technician. A failed governor or injection pump can cause dangerous overspeed.
