Possible Causes
Output breaker tripped, Loose output cable connections, Failed alternator stator winding, Faulty AVR with no excitation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Treat all terminals as live until proven otherwise. Isolate generator from load and utility.
- Check output breaker: Verify that the generator's main circuit breaker is in the ON position. Reset if tripped.
- Measure voltage: With a multimeter, check voltage at the alternator terminals and at the load side of the breaker. If voltage is present at alternator but not at load, suspect the breaker or wiring.
- Inspect connections: Tighten all lugs in the alternator terminal box and at the breaker.
- AVR/alternator: If no voltage is present at the alternator, the AVR or stator may have failed. This typically requires professional testing and replacement.
