Possible Causes
Moisture in alternator or wiring, Damaged insulation on output cables, Incorrect neutral-earth bonding configuration, Faulty connected appliance
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ground fault issues can be hazardous. Only qualified electricians should troubleshoot live circuits.
- Isolate loads: Disconnect all downstream loads and reset RCD/GFCI. If it holds with no load, reconnect circuits one by one to identify the problematic branch.
- Inspect generator wiring: Check output cables and terminal box for damaged insulation or moisture. Dry and repair as needed.
- Verify bonding: Ensure neutral-earth bonding is configured according to Pramac and local code requirements. Incorrect bonding can cause nuisance trips.
- Insulation testing: Perform an insulation resistance test on generator windings and cables. Low readings indicate a fault requiring repair or replacement.
