Generator attempts to start but shuts down within a few seconds; control panel displays E02 (Low Oil Pressure Shutdown).
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the generator is OFF, has cooled for at least 15–20 minutes, and cannot start automatically (set to OFF and disable AUTO). Avoid hot surfaces.
- Check oil level: Remove the dipstick on the Pulsar standby generator engine and verify the oil level is between the LOW and FULL marks. Top up with the manufacturer-recommended oil grade (commonly 10W-30 or 5W-30 for Pulsar air-cooled units) if low.
- Inspect for leaks: Look around the oil filter, drain plug, and crankcase gasket for signs of oil leakage. Tighten the oil drain plug and filter if seeping is observed (do not overtighten).
- Verify correct oil type: In very cold climates, oil that is too thick can cause low pressure at start-up. Confirm you are using the oil grade specified in the Pulsar manual for your temperature range.
- Reset and test: After correcting oil level, clear the E02 by turning the controller OFF, then back to AUTO or MANUAL, and attempt a restart.
- If E02 persists with correct oil level: The oil pressure switch may be stuck or defective. Disconnect the wire at the oil pressure switch and inspect for oil contamination or damage. Replacement of the switch is often required if it falsely indicates low pressure.
If you suspect actual low oil pressure (knocking noises, metallic sounds), do not continue to run the generator; contact a professional technician to avoid engine damage.
