Generator starts but shuts down within seconds to a minute with E04 (Overload / Overcurrent) on the display.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Open the main generator output breaker and the building's main breaker before working on any wiring. Never touch live terminals.
- Remove all loads: Turn OFF all branch circuits in the building panel or disconnect the generator from the transfer switch. Attempt to run the Pulsar generator with no load. If it runs normally without E04, the issue is likely in the building wiring or connected appliances.
- Gradually add load: Reconnect circuits one at a time, watching the generator display. If E04 appears when a specific circuit is energized, that circuit may have a short or overloaded condition.
- Inspect generator output connections: Check the output lugs inside the Pulsar generator junction box for loose or burned connections. Tighten any loose terminals and look for melted insulation.
- Check AVR wiring: With power OFF and battery disconnected, inspect the Automatic Voltage Regulator harness for burnt connectors or damaged wires. A failed AVR can cause unstable voltage and overload trips.
If E04 occurs even with no load connected, the AVR or alternator (stator/rotor) may be failing. These components should be tested and replaced by a qualified technician due to the risk of electric shock and the need for specialized tools.
