Possible Causes

Incorrect transfer switch wiring, Utility and generator sources paralleled, Stuck transfer switch contactor, Miswired neutral-ground bond

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Backfeed into the utility can be deadly. Immediately turn OFF the generator and open all breakers. Do not attempt to run the unit again until wiring is verified.

  • Inspect transfer switch wiring: Verify that the Pulsar standby generator is connected to an approved automatic transfer switch and that the utility and generator sources are isolated. The generator must never be hardwired in parallel with the grid.
  • Check for manual interlock: If a manual transfer device is used, ensure it positively prevents the main utility breaker and generator breaker from being ON at the same time.
  • Examine transfer switch mechanism: Look for mechanical binding or welded contacts that could be leaving both sources connected.

Because of the life-safety implications, any E14 reverse power condition should be evaluated and corrected by a licensed electrician or generator technician.
