Possible Causes

Failed starter solenoid, Defective starter motor, Loose battery or starter cable connections, Faulty start relay on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the generator OFF and disconnect the battery negative cable before touching any starter wiring.

  • Check battery and cables: Inspect the heavy positive cable from the battery to the starter solenoid and from the solenoid to the starter motor. Tighten loose connections and clean corrosion.
  • Listen for solenoid click: Reconnect the battery, command a manual start, and listen for a click at the starter solenoid. A click with no crank suggests a bad starter; no click suggests a bad solenoid or control signal.
  • Inspect starter solenoid: Check the small control wire on the solenoid for a tight connection. If the controller sends 12 V to this wire during crank but the solenoid does not engage, replace the solenoid.
  • Starter motor test (advanced): With the battery disconnected, remove the starter and bench‑test it or have an auto‑electric shop test it. Replace if it fails to spin strongly.
  • Control board relay: If the solenoid never receives a start signal, the start relay on the control board may be faulty and should be diagnosed by a technician.
