E01
Scheppach
Low Oil Level / Low Oil Pressure Shutdown
Generator will not start, control panel shows E01 shortly after cranking attempt

Possible Causes
Low engine oil level in crankcase, Faulty low‑oil pressure switch, Damaged wiring to oil sensor, Incorrect oil viscosity causing low pressure when cold
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the generator OFF, remove the key (if equipped), disconnect the battery negative terminal, and ensure the unit cannot auto‑start. Allow the engine to cool completely.
- Check oil level: Remove the side service panel on your Scheppach standby generator. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it, reinsert fully, then check the level. Top up with the manufacturer‑specified oil grade (typically 10W‑30 or as per the Scheppach manual) until it reaches the FULL mark. Do not overfill.
- Inspect for leaks: Look around the oil filter, drain plug, and crankcase gasket for fresh oil. Tighten the drain plug and oil filter by hand plus a small additional turn if they are seeping. Replace damaged gaskets or the oil filter if leaking.
- Reset and test: Reconnect the battery, clear the E01 code using the control panel (usually by pressing and holding the STOP/RESET button for a few seconds), then attempt a start. Watch the oil pressure warning lamp (if equipped).
- Check the low‑oil switch: Locate the low‑oil pressure switch on the engine block (usually near the oil filter). Inspect the single‑wire connector for corrosion or broken insulation. Clean with electrical contact cleaner and reseat firmly. If the engine starts and runs only when the switch is unplugged (do this only briefly for testing), the switch is likely faulty and should be replaced.
- Oil viscosity check: In very cold climates, thick oil can cause low pressure at start. Confirm you are using the temperature‑appropriate oil grade recommended by Scheppach.
If E01 persists after confirming correct oil level and wiring, replace the low‑oil pressure switch or contact a qualified technician.
