Possible Causes

Blocked cooling air intake grilles, Faulty engine cooling fan, Low coolant level on liquid‑cooled models, Defective cylinder head temperature sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the generator, disconnect battery negative, and allow the engine to cool for at least 30 minutes before touching any components.

  • Check ventilation: Inspect the Scheppach generator enclosure. Make sure intake and exhaust grilles are not blocked by leaves, dust, snow, or stored items. Clear all obstructions and maintain the clearance distances specified in the manual.
  • Clean cooling fins and shrouds: Remove the service panels. Use compressed air or a soft brush to clean dirt from the cylinder head cooling fins and the plastic fan shroud. Do not use high‑pressure water directly on the engine.
  • Verify cooling fan operation: On air‑cooled models, inspect the flywheel fan and plastic shroud for cracks or missing pieces. Ensure the shroud is properly installed so air is directed over the cylinder. Replace a damaged fan or shroud.
  • Check coolant (if liquid‑cooled): On liquid‑cooled Scheppach standby units, check the coolant reservoir and radiator level when cold. Top up with the correct coolant mix if low. Inspect hoses and the water pump area for leaks.
  • Inspect temperature sensor wiring: Locate the cylinder head temperature sensor or coolant temperature sensor. Check the connector for corrosion and the harness for chafing. Clean and reseat the connector.
  • Reset and test: After cleaning and inspection, reconnect the battery, clear E02 on the control panel, and run the generator with the enclosure closed. Monitor for recurrence.

If E02 returns quickly, the temperature sensor or control module may be faulty and should be tested and replaced by a technician.
