Possible Causes

Empty fuel tank, Clogged fuel filter, Stuck fuel shutoff solenoid, Air in fuel line after running dry

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the generator, disconnect battery negative, and keep all flames and sparks away from the fuel system.

  • Check fuel level: Open the fuel tank access on your Scheppach standby generator and verify there is sufficient fresh fuel. For petrol models, fuel older than 3 months may cause starting issues; drain and refill with fresh fuel if necessary.
  • Inspect fuel shutoff valve: Ensure the manual fuel shutoff valve (if fitted) is in the ON position. Move it fully open and closed a few times to free any sticking.
  • Replace fuel filter: Locate the in‑line fuel filter between the tank and carburetor or injection pump. Clamp the fuel line, remove the old filter, and install a new Scheppach‑specified fuel filter with the arrow pointing toward the engine. Check for leaks.
  • Check fuel solenoid: On models with a carburetor fuel shutoff solenoid, turn the key ON and listen/feel for a click at the solenoid. If there is no click, check the connector and fuse. Replace the solenoid if it does not actuate with power present.
  • Bleed air (diesel models): On diesel standby units, use the manual priming pump or bleed screw on the fuel filter housing to remove air from the system after running dry. Follow the Scheppach service procedure.
  • Clear code and test: Reconnect the battery, clear E03, and attempt to start. If it fires briefly and dies, recheck fuel flow and filter orientation.
