Possible Causes
Sticking mechanical governor linkage, Faulty electronic governor actuator, Incorrect governor setting in controller, Defective engine speed sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator, disconnect battery negative, and wait for all moving parts to stop. Do not run the engine with a known overspeed condition.
- Inspect throttle and governor linkage: Remove the side panel and observe the throttle lever, springs, and governor arm. Clean any dirt or corrosion and ensure the linkage moves freely through its full range.
- Check return springs: Verify that the governor return springs are intact and not stretched. Replace weak or broken springs with Scheppach‑approved parts.
- Electronic actuator test: On models with an electronic governor actuator, inspect the actuator rod and connector. With the key ON, the actuator should move during self‑test. Replace if unresponsive.
- Speed sensor inspection: Locate the engine speed (RPM) sensor near the flywheel or crankshaft. Check for metal debris on the sensor tip and clean it. Ensure the air gap is within specification.
- Controller settings: Enter the Scheppach controller setup and confirm the rated frequency (50/60 Hz) and number of poles are correctly configured. Incorrect settings can misinterpret normal speed as overspeed.
