Possible Causes
Clogged air filter, Restricted exhaust, Misadjusted governor, Engine running on stale or poor‑quality fuel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the generator from all loads before testing. Turn OFF and allow the engine to cool.
- Check air filter: Open the air filter housing on your Scheppach generator. Remove the filter element and inspect for heavy dirt or oil saturation. Clean or replace with a genuine Scheppach air filter.
- Inspect exhaust: Check the muffler and exhaust outlet for nests, soot buildup, or crushed sections. Clear any obstructions and replace a collapsed muffler.
- Fuel quality: Drain old fuel from the tank and carburetor or injection system if the generator has been unused for many months. Refill with fresh fuel of the correct grade.
- Governor adjustment: With the generator running under moderate load, adjust the governor speed screw slightly (if user‑adjustable) to maintain rated frequency (50/60 Hz). Refer to the Scheppach service manual; over‑adjustment can cause overspeed.
- Re‑test under load: Gradually apply load while monitoring frequency and engine response. If E14 persists, the governor assembly may need professional calibration or replacement.
