Possible Causes

Misadjusted governor, Faulty electronic governor module, Incorrect frequency setting in controller, Engine mechanical issues causing unstable speed

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect loads before adjusting engine speed. Keep clear of moving linkages.

  • Confirm settings: In the Scheppach controller, verify the configured frequency (50 or 60 Hz) matches your region and generator rating.
  • Check mechanical linkage: Inspect the governor arm, throttle lever, and springs for binding or wear. Lubricate pivot points lightly and replace worn springs.
  • Electronic governor test: On electronically governed models, check the governor module connector and wiring. Look for error LEDs on the module if present.
  • Adjust speed: With the generator running no‑load, adjust the governor speed screw slightly to bring frequency into spec, using a frequency meter. Make small changes and lock the screw when done.
  • Investigate engine issues: If frequency hunts or fluctuates widely, check for clogged fuel filter, dirty carburetor/injectors, or misfiring cylinders.
