Possible Causes
Generator undersized for motor inrush, Weak or aged main breaker, Loose connections causing heat, High starting current from old compressor or pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and lock out the transfer switch before opening panels.
- Identify heavy loads: Note which appliances (e.g., well pump, air conditioner) cause trips when they start. Consider staggering their operation or disabling non‑essential loads.
- Inspect main breaker: Check the Scheppach main breaker for signs of overheating or mechanical wear. Replace if the handle feels loose or if there is visible damage.
- Tighten lugs: Tighten all output lugs and neutral/ground connections to the torque specified in the manual.
- Evaluate generator sizing: Compare the locked‑rotor amps (LRA) of large motors to the generator's surge rating. If consistently overloaded, upgrading the generator or using soft‑start devices on motors may be necessary.
