Possible Causes
Dead starter battery, Faulty starter solenoid, Defective ignition switch, Loose ground strap between engine and frame
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the generator is in OFF mode and cannot auto‑start while testing. Wear eye protection.
- Check battery voltage: Measure voltage at the battery terminals. Charge or replace the battery if below 12.0 V.
- Inspect cables and grounds: Verify the positive cable from battery to starter solenoid and the negative cable to chassis are tight and corrosion‑free. Clean and retighten as needed.
- Listen for solenoid click: Turn the key to START. If there is no click, test for 12 V at the solenoid control terminal while cranking. If voltage is present but no action, replace the starter solenoid.
- Ignition switch test: If there is no voltage at the solenoid control terminal, test the ignition switch output and any neutral/park safety switches in the circuit. Replace faulty components.
