Possible Causes
Loose drain plug, Leaking oil filter seal, Crankshaft seal wear, Valve cover gasket leak
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and allow the engine to cool. Wear gloves when handling hot components.
- Locate source: Clean the engine exterior with degreaser and run briefly to identify the leak origin.
- Check drain plug and filter: Tighten the oil drain plug and oil filter to the torque specified. Replace the crush washer or filter if leaking persists.
- Inspect valve cover: Look for oil seeping around the valve cover gasket. Tighten bolts evenly; if still leaking, replace the gasket.
- Crank seal leaks: Oil behind the flywheel or at the PTO end suggests crankshaft seal failure, which requires more advanced repair or engine removal.
