Possible Causes
Insufficient engine oil level, Faulty oil pressure switch or sensor, Clogged oil filter, Worn oil pump or excessive engine bearing wear
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Stop the generator, set controller to OFF, isolate load, and allow the engine to cool. Do not run the engine with suspected low oil pressure.
- Check oil level: Use the engine dipstick. Top up with the manufacturer-specified oil grade used on SDMO standby sets. If level is very low, inspect for external leaks around the oil filter, sump plug, and rocker cover.
- Inspect oil filter: If the filter is old or damaged, replace it with the correct SDMO-approved oil filter. After replacement, refill oil and check for leaks.
- Test the oil pressure switch: Locate the oil pressure switch on the engine block (wired to the SDMO control harness). With engine off, disconnect the wire and check continuity to ground. Compare behavior with the engine running if you have a mechanical gauge available. Replace the switch if readings are inconsistent.
- Check wiring to controller: Inspect the harness from the oil pressure switch to the SDMO control module for chafing, loose connectors, or corrosion that could cause a false low-pressure signal.
- Reset and test: After correcting the issue, clear AL02 on the controller and run the generator under light load while monitoring for reoccurrence.
