Possible Causes
Insufficient engine oil causing bearing wear, Loose SDMO engine mounting bolts, Injector timing issues, Worn connecting rod or main bearings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If the noise is severe or suddenly appears, immediately unload and stop the generator to prevent catastrophic damage.
- Check oil level and pressure: Verify oil level and monitor oil pressure on the SDMO controller. If low, do not restart until the cause is found and corrected.
- Inspect engine mounts: Check that all engine mounting bolts to the SDMO baseframe are tight and that rubber mounts are intact.
- Listen for injector knock: A rhythmic knock that changes with load may indicate injector issues. Have injectors tested and serviced by a diesel specialist.
- Seek professional diagnosis: Internal bearing or piston damage requires an experienced engine technician. Continued operation can destroy the engine.
