Possible Causes
Air in fuel system, Clogged primary or secondary fuel filters, Closed fuel shutoff valve, Failed low-pressure lift pump on Volvo Penta engine
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disable auto-start. Avoid open flames near diesel fuel.
- Confirm fuel supply: Check that the main and day tanks have fuel and that all manual shutoff valves are open.
- Replace fuel filters: Install new primary and secondary filters. Use the hand primer or electric lift pump to bleed air until solid fuel flows from bleed screws.
- Inspect for air leaks: Tighten all fittings on the suction side. Replace cracked hoses and worn clamps.
- Test lift pump: With ignition on, verify that the electric lift pump runs (if equipped) or that the mechanical pump delivers fuel when cranking. Replace a non-functioning pump with a Volvo Penta unit.
