Engine will not crank; control panel shows ECU 1.1 and start command is ignored or aborted immediately.

Safety first: Disable automatic start. Turn the generator to OFF and open the battery disconnect. Lock out/tag out any remote start sources.

• Check battery voltage: Measure at the starter battery terminals. You should see around 12.6 V (12 V system) or 25.2 V (24 V system). If below 11.5/23 V, charge or replace the batteries.
• Inspect ECU/EMS fuse: In the Volvo Penta control box or junction box, locate the ECU/EMS supply fuse (refer to the engine wiring diagram). Replace any blown fuse with the exact same rating. If it blows again immediately, there is a short that requires a technician.
• Check battery master switch: Ensure the battery isolator/master switch is fully ON and not heat-damaged or loose. Tighten cable lugs and clean corrosion with a wire brush.
• Inspect ECU connector: Locate the EMS/ECU on the engine (often on the side of the cylinder block). Verify the main multi-pin connector is fully seated and latched. Look for bent pins, moisture, or green corrosion.
• Test for ECU power: With a multimeter and wiring diagram, verify that ECU B+ and ground pins have correct voltage when the panel is powered. If power and ground are present but the fault persists, the ECU may be defective and should be tested/replaced by an authorized Volvo Penta technician.
