Possible Causes
Failed fuel level sender in day tank, Stuck float arm, Wiring fault between sender and controller, Incorrect sender calibration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Work in a well-ventilated area away from ignition sources when opening fuel tanks.
- Verify actual fuel level: Use a dipstick or sight glass to confirm tank level.
- Inspect sender wiring: Check the harness from the fuel level sender to the generator controller for damage or loose connections. Repair as needed.
- Check sender movement: Remove the sender from the tank if accessible and gently move the float through its range while monitoring resistance or controller reading. If it sticks or reads open/short, replace the sender.
- Calibrate if required: Some controllers allow fuel level calibration. Follow the controller manual to recalibrate after sender replacement.
