Possible Causes
Low coolant level, Failed radiator fan or fan belt, Clogged radiator fins, Faulty coolant temperature sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not open the radiator cap on a hot engine. Turn OFF the generator, disconnect battery negative, and let the unit cool completely.
- Check coolant level: Inspect the coolant reservoir and radiator (when cool). Top up with the correct coolant mix recommended by Wacker Neuson. If low, inspect hoses, water pump, and radiator for leaks.
- Inspect radiator and airflow: Remove debris, dust, and grass from radiator fins and the engine shroud using low-pressure air or a soft brush. Ensure louvers and intake/exhaust openings are not blocked.
- Check fan operation: On air-cooled units, verify the engine cooling fan and shrouds are intact. On liquid-cooled units, check the electric radiator fan (if equipped) for free rotation and that its connector is secure.
- Inspect fan belt: Check belt tension and condition. Replace if cracked, glazed, or loose.
- Test coolant temperature sensor: Locate the sensor on the cylinder head or thermostat housing. Inspect wiring and connector. If the sensor is corroded or damaged, replace it.
- Reset and test: After correcting issues, clear the fault on the controller and run the generator under light load while monitoring temperature.
