Possible Causes
Low diesel or gasoline level in tank, Clogged fuel filter, Air in fuel lines, Faulty fuel lift pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and disconnect battery negative. Work in a well-ventilated area away from open flames.
- Verify fuel level: Check the tank gauge and visually confirm fuel level if possible. Refill with the correct fuel type specified for your Wacker Neuson standby generator (diesel or gasoline).
- Inspect fuel lines: Look for wet spots, cracks, or loose hose clamps between the tank, fuel filter, and injection pump/carburetor. Tighten or replace as needed.
- Replace fuel filter: Locate the primary fuel filter/water separator. Close any fuel shutoff valve, remove the filter, and install a new OEM filter. Prime according to the manual (use hand primer or bleed screws).
- Bleed air from system (diesel): Loosen the bleed screw on the fuel filter or injection pump and operate the hand primer until fuel flows without bubbles. Tighten the screw.
- Check fuel lift pump: With ignition ON, verify that the electric lift pump (if equipped) runs and delivers fuel. For mechanical pumps, crank the engine and check for fuel flow at the filter outlet.
- Reset and test: Clear E05 on the controller and start the generator. Monitor for stable running under light load.
