Possible Causes
Faulty engine speed governor, Sticking throttle linkage, Incorrect governor adjustment, Defective frequency sensing circuit in controller
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator, disconnect battery negative, and lock out AUTO mode. Overspeed can cause severe mechanical damage; do not repeatedly restart until the cause is found.
- Inspect throttle linkage: Manually move the throttle lever on the injection pump or carburetor. Ensure it moves smoothly and returns by spring tension. Lubricate pivot points lightly if sticking.
- Check governor arm and springs: Verify that the mechanical governor arm is intact and that springs are not stretched or broken. Replace damaged springs with OEM parts.
- Controller speed setting: On units with electronic governors, access the Wacker Neuson controller menu and confirm rated frequency (50/60 Hz) and speed parameters are correct per the manual. Do not change advanced parameters without documentation.
- Test frequency: With a multimeter capable of frequency measurement, run the generator in MANUAL mode (if safe) and verify output frequency at no load. If it exceeds spec significantly, the governor or controller may be faulty.
- Inspect speed sensor: Some models use a magnetic pickup on the flywheel. Check sensor gap, cleanliness, and wiring. Replace if damaged.
- Contact service if unsure: Overspeed faults can be dangerous; if adjustments do not resolve E06, have a qualified Wacker Neuson technician calibrate the governor.
