Possible Causes
Low engine oil level, Blocked oil cooler, Failed oil temperature sensor, Restricted airflow around oil cooler
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Allow the engine to cool completely. Disconnect battery negative before working near rotating parts or wiring.
- Check oil level: Verify oil level on the dipstick and top up with the specified oil if low.
- Inspect oil cooler: Locate the oil cooler (air-to-oil or coolant-to-oil). Clean external fins with compressed air and ensure no debris blocks airflow.
- Check oil temperature sensor: Inspect the sensor and wiring. Test resistance versus temperature according to the service manual. Replace if out of specification.
- Verify ventilation: Ensure the generator enclosure fans and louvers are functioning and not obstructed.
- Reset and test: Clear E16 and run the generator while monitoring oil temperature via the controller.
