Possible Causes
Failed onboard battery charger, Loose AC supply to charger, Sulfated or aged battery, Parasitic draw from accessories
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and disconnect the battery negative cable before testing the charger wiring.
- Test battery health: Charge the battery fully with an external charger and have it load‑tested. Replace the starting battery if it fails.
- Check charger output: With utility power present and the charger connected, measure voltage at the battery terminals. It should be around 13.2–13.6 V. If not, check the charger's AC input fuse and wiring.
- Inspect charger connections: Ensure the charger's DC leads are securely attached to the battery posts and not corroded.
- Replace charger if faulty: If AC input is present but there is no DC output, replace the battery charger module with a WEN‑approved unit.
- Check for parasitic loads: With the generator off, measure current draw from the battery. Excessive draw may indicate a stuck relay or accessory left on, which should be corrected.
