Possible Causes
Empty or closed fuel supply, Blocked fuel filter, Faulty fuel shutoff solenoid, Air in fuel line or low gas pressure (NG/LP models)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the generator OFF and disconnect the battery negative cable. For natural gas (NG) or liquid propane (LP) units, close the gas shutoff valve before loosening any fittings. Ventilate the area and avoid open flames.
- Verify fuel source: For LP, check the tank level and ensure the service valve is fully open. For NG, confirm the gas meter is on and the appliance shutoff valve at the generator is open.
- Inspect fuel line and regulator: Follow the gas line from the shutoff valve to the generator's gas regulator. Make sure flexible hoses are not kinked or crushed. Check that the regulator vent is not blocked by debris or insects.
- Check fuel filter: Locate the in‑line fuel filter on the engine side of the regulator or carburetor. Close the gas valve, remove the filter, and inspect for contamination. Replace the fuel filter if dirty or restricted.
- Test fuel shutoff solenoid: With the battery reconnected and the controller in manual start (but engine not cranking), listen or feel for a click at the fuel shutoff solenoid on the carburetor or fuel rail when you toggle ON/OFF. If there is no click, check for 12 V at the solenoid connector during start. If voltage is present but the solenoid does not open, replace the fuel shutoff solenoid.
- Bleed air (LP/NG): After filter or line work, briefly loosen the fitting at the carburetor inlet and crack the gas valve slightly to purge air, then retighten. Do this only in a well‑ventilated outdoor area and avoid sparks.
- Retry start: Clear the E02 code, then attempt a manual start. If the engine still will not fire, further diagnosis of the carburetor or ignition system is required.
