Possible Causes
Emergency stop button engaged, Open E‑stop circuit wiring, Faulty E‑stop switch, Control board input fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Confirm that the generator is not needed for immediate backup before working on the E‑stop circuit. Keep the transfer switch in utility position during troubleshooting.
- Check E‑stop button: Locate the red emergency stop button on the WEN generator enclosure. Ensure it is pulled out or rotated to the RUN position per the label. If it is stuck, replace the emergency stop switch.
- Inspect E‑stop wiring: Open the control panel and trace the two‑wire E‑stop circuit from the switch to the controller. Look for loose terminals, broken wires, or corrosion. Repair as needed.
- Test switch continuity: With the generator off and battery disconnected, use a multimeter to verify that the E‑stop switch changes state (open/closed) when pressed and released. Replace if it does not operate correctly.
- Bypass test (temporary): For diagnostic purposes only, you may temporarily jumper the E‑stop input at the controller to simulate a closed circuit. If the generator starts and runs normally, the issue is in the switch or wiring. Remove the jumper after testing and restore proper safety function.
- Controller input check: If the E‑stop circuit is confirmed good but E14 persists, the controller input may be defective and require control board replacement.
