How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Avoid repeated cranking to prevent starter and battery damage. Turn the generator OFF and disconnect the battery negative cable before inspecting components.
- Clear lockout: Many WEN controllers require a manual reset after multiple failed start attempts. Press and hold the STOP/RESET button or follow the menu procedure to clear E15.
- Address root cause: Investigate why the engine is not starting: verify fuel supply, check spark plugs and ignition coils, and ensure the air filter is not clogged. Correct any issues found.
- Inspect crank relay: Locate the starter (crank) relay in the control compartment. Check for loose connections and test the relay coil and contacts with a multimeter. Replace the starter relay if it fails tests.
- Check battery and cables: Ensure the starting battery is fully charged and that all cable connections are clean and tight. High resistance in the cables can cause slow cranking and failed starts.
- Test start again: After correcting issues and clearing E15, attempt a manual start while monitoring for proper cranking speed and ignition.
