Low Fuel Level (Liquid Fuel Models)
Generator shuts down and displays E12 after running for a short period

Possible Causes
Low gasoline or diesel level in day tank, faulty fuel level sensor, wiring issue between tank sender and controller
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the controller to OFF, open the main AC breaker, and disconnect the negative battery cable. Avoid open flames or sparks near fuel.
- Check fuel level: Visually inspect the fuel tank level. If low, add the correct fuel type recommended by Westinghouse and avoid overfilling.
- Inspect fuel level sender: Locate the level sensor on the tank (often a float-type sender). Check wiring connections for corrosion or looseness.
- Test sender (if accessible): With a multimeter, measure resistance across the sender terminals while moving the float. Resistance should change smoothly. Replace the sender if readings are erratic or open.
- Clear code: After refueling and verifying connections, reconnect the battery, clear E12 by cycling the controller, and test run the generator.
