Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: The ATS connects to live utility power. Only qualified persons should open the ATS enclosure. Always turn off the generator, open its main breaker, and follow lockout/tagout procedures on utility power before working inside the ATS.
- Inspect communication cable: Trace the low-voltage control cable from the generator control panel to the ATS. Look for physical damage, rodent chewing, or pulled connectors.
- Verify terminal connections: At both ends, confirm that the communication wires are landed on the correct terminals as per the Westinghouse wiring diagram. Tighten any loose screws.
- Check for corrosion: Look for green or white corrosion on low-voltage terminals. Clean and re-terminate as needed.
- Test continuity: With power off, use a multimeter to check continuity of each conductor in the communication cable. Replace the cable if any conductor is open or shorted.
If wiring is intact and E13 persists, the ATS control board or generator controller communication port may be defective and should be evaluated by a technician.
