Possible Causes
Worn or fouled spark plugs, failing ignition coil, damaged spark plug wires, incorrect spark plug gap
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the controller to OFF, open the main AC breaker, and disconnect the negative battery cable. Allow the engine to cool.
- Inspect spark plugs: Remove each spark plug and examine the electrodes. Replace plugs that are heavily carboned, oil-fouled, or cracked. Use only the plug type and gap specified in the Westinghouse manual.
- Check plug wires: Inspect ignition leads for cracks, burns, or loose boots. Replace any damaged wires and ensure boots are fully seated on plugs and coil towers.
- Test ignition coil: Use an ignition tester or multimeter (per service manual) to verify coil primary and secondary resistance. Replace the coil if readings are out of specification.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall components, reconnect the battery, clear E15, and run the generator under light load to confirm smooth operation.
