Possible Causes
Faulty oil pressure switch falsely indicating low pressure, blocked fuel jet, misadjusted idle speed, defective run relay on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Set controller to OFF, open main AC breaker, and disconnect negative battery cable.
- Bypass test (technician only): A technician may temporarily bypass the oil pressure switch to confirm if it is falsely shutting down the engine. If the engine stays running with the switch bypassed, replace the oil pressure switch immediately and restore proper wiring.
- Clean carburetor (if equipped): Remove the carburetor bowl and clean jets with carb cleaner. Replace the bowl gasket if damaged.
- Inspect idle stop screw: Ensure the throttle stop screw is set per the service manual so the engine does not close completely at idle.
Because safety shutdowns are involved, improper bypassing can damage the engine. Use a qualified technician for this diagnosis.
