Possible Causes
Failed battery charger regulator, Incorrect external charger connected, Loose battery connections causing voltage spikes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disable AUTO and disconnect any external charging devices from the generator battery.
- Measure charging voltage: With utility power present and generator in standby, measure battery voltage. If it exceeds about 14.5 VDC for extended periods, the internal battery charger module may be faulty.
- Inspect charger wiring: Check the DC output leads from the charger to the battery for damage or poor connections. Tighten all terminals.
- Remove external chargers: Do not use an additional trickle charger on the same battery while the Winco charger is connected.
- Replace charger if needed: If voltage remains high with proper wiring and no external charger, replace the Winco-approved charger assembly.
Prolonged overvoltage can damage the battery and controller; correct the issue before returning the unit to AUTO.
