How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Open the generator breaker and main service disconnect. High voltage can damage appliances and pose shock hazards.
- Inspect AVR wiring: With power off, verify that the AVR sensing leads are connected to the correct terminals as per the Winco wiring diagram. Look for loose neutrals or broken wires.
- Check neutral bond: Ensure the generator neutral connection in the terminal block is tight and not corroded.
- Do not randomly adjust: If the AVR has adjustment screws, do not turn them without following the Winco service manual. Incorrect adjustment can worsen overvoltage.
- Test no-load voltage: Have a qualified person measure output voltage at no load. If it remains high, replace the AVR with the correct Winco part number.
Do not return the generator to service until output voltage is within specification.
