Possible Causes
Failed starter solenoid, Open starter coil wiring, Defective ignition switch output from controller, Seized starter motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disable AUTO and disconnect battery negative before working on the starter circuit.
- Listen during start: Attempt a manual start. A single click with no crank suggests the starter solenoid; no sound suggests a control issue.
- Check voltage at solenoid: With a helper and meter, verify that 12 VDC reaches the solenoid coil terminal when START is commanded. If not, inspect the control wiring and starter relay.
- Inspect cables: Ensure the heavy cable from battery to solenoid and from solenoid to starter is tight and not corroded.
- Bench test starter: Remove the starter motor and have it bench tested. Replace if seized or weak.
After repair, clear the E15 code and test several start cycles.
