Possible Causes

Active fault not cleared, Safety interlock (door or panel switch) open, Faulty neutral safety or gear position switch (if equipped), Control board logic fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Ensure the generator is isolated from the load and cannot start unexpectedly.

  • Check for active alarms: Scroll through the controller menu for any active alarms (low oil, overtemp, etc.). Clear them according to Yamaha instructions before attempting to start.
  • Inspect access panel switches: Some Yamaha standby units have door or panel interlock switches. Ensure all panels are properly closed and latches engaged.
  • Test interlock switches: Use a multimeter to verify continuity when panels are closed. Replace any defective switches.
  • Controller reset: Power-cycle the controller by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, then reconnect. If E13 persists, the control board may be faulty.
  • Contact service: For persistent crank inhibit with no obvious cause, have a Yamaha technician evaluate the control logic.
