Possible Causes
Failed O2 sensor in exhaust, Damaged O2 sensor wiring, Exhaust leak upstream of sensor, Control module fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and allow the exhaust system to cool before touching any components.
- Locate O2 sensor: It is typically threaded into the exhaust manifold or pipe near the engine.
- Inspect wiring: Check the sensor harness for heat damage, chafing, or disconnection. Repair or replace as needed.
- Check for exhaust leaks: Look for soot marks or noise around the manifold and joints before the sensor. Repair leaks to ensure accurate readings.
- Replace O2 sensor: If wiring and exhaust are sound, replace the O2 sensor with a Yamaha-approved part.
- Clear code and test: Reset E18 and run the generator to confirm smooth operation and no return of the fault.
