Possible Causes
Open-circuit dryer heater, tripped thermal cut-out (TCO), loose heater wiring, failed heater relay on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the machine. Dryer components can remain hot after use; allow cooling time.
Diagnosis:
- Access dryer heater: Remove the rear panel. The dryer heater is typically in a metal duct assembly.
- Check thermal cut-outs: Locate the thermostats/TCOs on the heater housing. Press any manual reset buttons if present. Test continuity with a multimeter; replace if open.
- Measure heater resistance: Disconnect heater terminals and measure resistance. If open, replace the heater assembly.
- Inspect wiring: Check for burned connectors or loose spades at the heater and control board.
- Control board: If heater and TCOs are good, the heater relay on the PCB may be faulty and require board replacement.
Warning: A repeatedly tripping TCO indicates poor airflow (blocked lint paths) that must be corrected to avoid fire risk.
